چکیده
Introduction. Common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in Central America and the Caribbean are often produced on low fertility soils which reduces crop yield. Bean breeding programs need to identify genotypes that have superior adaptation these conditions. Objective. Identify Mesoamerican bean germplasm lines with soil fertility. Materials methods. The performance of twenty-seven from Abiotic Stress Evaluation (BASE) 120 panel were evaluated an unfertilized oxisol at Isabela, Puerto Rico over five growing seasons (four-year period 2015-2018). inoculated a mixture Rhizobium etli R. tropici promote symbiotic nitrogen fixation (SNF). Results. Four mean seed yields >1,200 kg ha-1 had estimates derived atmosphere (NDFA) >50 %. Greater nodule number was positively correlated % NDFA, later maturity heat drought tolerant small red cultivar ‘Rojo Chortí’ white ‘Verano’ among smallest apparent C isotope discrimination values suggesting greater water use efficiency. Among elite trial, root rot damage minimal basal growth angles intermediate (40-60 %), favored uptake nutrients. Conclusion. yield enhanced identified. Many also possess resistance other biotic abiotic factors limit Caribbean.

Mesoamerican origin of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is revealed by sequence data.
Knowledge about the origins and evolution of crop species represents an important prerequisite for efficient conservation and use of existing plant materials. This study was designed to solve the ongoing debate on the origins of the common bean by investigating the nucleotide diversity at five gene loci of a large sample that represents the entire geographical distribution of the wild forms of ...

INTRODUCTION Embryo defective mutants in Phaseolus vulgaris obtained by Ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) induction were studied to determine the structural and molecular basis of seed abortion in this species. In the wild-type, the classical pattern of seed development showed coordinated differentiation of the embryo proper, suspensor, endosperm tissue, and seed coat. On the contrarily, EMS mutant ...
متن کاملNovel Rhizobium lineages isolated from root nodules of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in Andean and Mesoamerican areas.
The taxonomic affiliations of nineteen root-nodule bacteria isolated from the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in Mexico, Ecuador and Brazil were investigated by analyses of 16S rRNA and of four protein-coding housekeeping genes. One strain from Mexico could be assigned to Rhizobium etli and two from Brazil to Rhizobium leucaenae, whereas another from Mexico corresponded to a recently descri...
متن کاملWATER ABSORPTION IN BEAN SEEDS (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) DURING PROCESSING
The purpose of this paper was to estimate and to evaluate the hydration curves of three kinds of dry bean varieties (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), besides adjusting the Peleg’s model to the experimental values under several soaking temperatures. Bean seeds of pinto, black and red kidney varieties were soaked in distilled water in the temperatures of 20, 30, 40 and 50 °C. The constant C1 (Peleg rate c...
